The first generation of Ford Expedition appeared in 1996. The car is made on the platform of
Ford F150 pickup and combines reliability, strength and comfort. The car’s dimensions impress,
its length is 5200 mm. Such dimensions are a guarantee of a spacious saloon, where there is
enough space for a comfortable accommodation of passengers. The saloon can have two or three
rows of seats and can accommodate from five to nine passengers correspondingly, where the
third row seats are removed easily, the second row seats are folded, which, if necessary, helps
to increase trunk volume up to 3.3m3. The saloon’s upholstery can be made of several types of
fabrics or real leather.

When inspecting used Ford Expedition of the first generation you should not be impressed by
its dimensions, but have a closer look at the body. You must look not for any signs of corrosion,
but for traces of possible body repairs. As terrible it might be, but such big American SUVs
like to overturn very much, especially in the hands of unskilful drivers. Used Ford Expedition
has a high center of gravity, too soft suspension and, oddly enough, it practically lacks modern
electronic antispin systems.

Engine

Used Ford Expedition of the first generation was equipped only with two V8 gasoline engines.
One of them had the volume of 4.6l, and the other – 5.4l. During the first three years of
production, the engine power was 218 hp and 233 hp correspondingly, but then it became a bit
more powerful.

When inspecting the engine of used Ford Expedition, you must pay attention whether there are
no leaks from sealings, etc. Usually, the car that has been exploited in normal conditions must
have nothing like that. But if the car has been driven like a race car, some or other repairs might
be quite necessary. The thing is that the American engines, despite all their reliability, do not like
working at maximal rpm speed and “torn” style of driving at all.
